Screen Door can't find my Mac
- Turn on Screen Sharing: on the Mac, open System Settings > General > Sharing and turn on Screen Sharing.
- Use the same network: Macs only show up by themselves when your device and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi or wired network.
- Allow local network access: on your device, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and turn on Screen Door.
You can also add a Mac by hand. Tap +, then enter its name or address, such as studio.local.
Sign-in didn't work
Use the username and password you use to log in to the Mac, not your Apple Account. If you set a separate Screen Sharing password on the Mac, Screen Door asks for that instead.
Connecting when I'm away from home
Install Tailscale, or another VPN, on both your device and your Mac. Then edit the Mac in Screen Door and enter its Tailscale name or address. Screen Door uses the local address when the Mac answers there, and Tailscale when it doesn't. Don't make your Mac's Screen Sharing reachable from the open internet.
Typing shortcuts like ⌘C
Show the keyboard, tap ⌘ in the row of keys above it, then tap C. A modifier applies to the next key you type. A hardware keyboard sends shortcuts straight to the Mac.
Right-clicking
On iPhone and iPad, tap with two fingers in Mouse mode. On Apple Vision Pro, pinch and hold, then let go without moving.
